245 MW Power Plant 2.5 Day Outage
16 Valves Repaired In Line in 43 hrs.
The job time line: A 245 MW Power plant handed Allied Valve's 14 member field service valve repair team the task of repairing a total of 16 valves consisting of 14 gate valves and two safety valves in a 48 hour window. Starting Sunday evening at 10:00 pm the team disassembled 11- 2500# pressure seal, 3- 300# bolted bonnet and 2 weld in safety valves during the night until 6:00 am Monday. During disassembly they reconfirmed pressure seal measurements and inspected wedge, disc, plug and seat conditions for repair or resurfacing as well as assessing bonnet and stem surfaces for machining or replacement. Pressure seal measurements, bonnets and stems reached Allied Valve's – Riverdale, IA facility at 6:00 am Monday morning to begin manufacturing 11 new pressure seals from steel tube as well as machine 11 bonnets and 14 stems while our service team rested for 6 hours. Allied Valve's service team were back on the job starting at 1:00 pm Monday afternoon, and began repairing 14 sets of damaged valve seats in line with boring bars, grinders and lapping plates. They completed their work around 1:00 am Tuesday and then rested until morning. Starting at 8:00 am, finished pressure seals, machined bonnets and stems started to arrive on site to meet our team to install and re-assemble the repaired valves. From 8:00 am Tuesday morning until 5:00 pm Tuesday evening, wedges were fit, and the valves repacked and reassembled using the newly machined stems, wedges, and pressure seals in addition to remounting 5 MOV’s and setting torque and limit switches. When the job was complete and the unit came up, not one valve leaked attesting to Allied Valve's quality valve repair performance!
The reasons for success: Allied Valve's. service team was given a little over a month to plan this job which enabled us to ensure that all key resources were in place. In addition, our Account Manager was able to work closely with the customer and scaffolding subcontractors to have the right scaffolding set and in the right place prior to starting the job.
